Stuart Herd

Stuart Herd Paintings

Stuart Herd is a Scottish landscape painting and his artworks often highlight what appears to be the calm before the storm with threatening and even fiery skies providing the backdrop to otherwise serene scenes. Other compositions offer the uplifting sight of clear blue skies over calm seas. His pictures certainly explore the extremes of weather and mood that characterise the seasons in Scotland.

Stuart Herd is a Scottish artist who was born in 1971. He actually grew up in England and after attending Amersham College of Art became a photographer principally working in the South East. He did, however, regularly travel to Scotland to capture the landscapes of his native land.

Herd eventually returned to Scotland where he began producing wonderfully detailed pen and ink cityscapes and scenes. Galleries started to exhibit his work and his artistic career overtook his photographic one. He then lived and worked in Jamaica for two years before returning to Scotland once more where he supported his artistic career by working as a picture framer but was eventually able to work full time on his paintings. He did feel that he needed a better outlet for his art and somewhere for people to meet him and to view the paintings and so he opened The Art Studio in 2007. Here he could showcase his work which was becoming sought after by many collectors across the world.

Sadly in 2011 Stuart Herd had a terrible accident whilst constructing some flat pack furniture. He injured his eye with a screwdriver and despite extensive treatment and several operations he eventually lost his eye. This event has in no way impeded his creativity nor his ability to produce fine work. The whole episode did illustrate that he needed a backup plan as he was unsure how much painting time he would lose whilst undergoing treatment. As a result he opened The Harbour Gallery in Tarbert where he exhibited the work of local Scottish artists and professionally mounted West Coast memorabilia. The gallery fast became a popular destination for visitors to explore.

Stuarts own work continues to grow in popularity and is widely collected. He also undertakes commissions from both private and corporate clients. We are delighted to showcase a striking collection of Stuart's original acrylic paintings at the Enid Hutt Gallery and these feature Scottish landscapes and coastal scenes together with works exploring the beauty and atmosphere of Venice.
